Tricky Stewart Explains Giving Brandy Record to Jennifer Lopez

There has been much talk about the origin of Jennifer Lopez’s first single “Louboutins.” The producer behind the track, Tricky Stewart, is setting the record straight on how the designer heels ended up on J.Lo’s feet.

“We originally wrote the song for Brandy and when Brandy’s situation kinda fell apart over at [Epic Records], there was an opportunity for us to place the record on J.Lo’s album,” Stewart explains to Rap-Up.com. Brandy was previously signed to Epic, currently home to Lopez.

The Grammy winner describes what it was like to collaborate with J.Lo on “Louboutins,” for which she will shoot a video next month. “I’ve always been a fan of hers and have so much respect for her career, how she’s put it together, and where she’s come from,” he says. “It was a great opportunity and she sounded amazing on the record, and [Epic] obviously already loved the record ’cause they loved it for Brandy. So once we got it sounding great, it seemed like a no-brainer that it would be the first single.”

Tricky and his hit making partner The-Dream contributed other material to the superstar’s new project, but he didn’t know if it would make the cut. “We did do other songs, but I don’t want to say our other songs are on there and they’re not.”

Rap-Up.com was one of the first media outlets to hear nine tracks from Lopez’s seventh studio album Love?, due in April. Click here to read our preview.
